BEHIND THE BREW
BIRDIES BREW
My love for coffee can be traced back to 1997, when my grandmothers, Judi and Bobbie Jean began letting me have small cups of this exclusive, sophisticated beverage. I loved sipping my (mostly sugar and cream) along with them and feeling like such an adult. From there my obsession only grew. I learned about lattes as I watched Mary-Kate and Ashley sip from their jumbo frothy mugs, and knew I had to try it. Coffee became a part of my identity. I planned trips around it and began experimenting with my own at home espresso machine. My family kindly sipped along, calling every drink delicious- even when I would notice their cup remained full. I began to dream of having my own coffee shop. On orientation day for my masters program in counseling I responded “have my own coffee shop” when asked my 10 year goal. I now understand why I received quizzical looks from my future classmates and colleague—I was expected to provide a counseling oriented response. I have since moved into a fulfilling counseling career that I deeply love, but the coffee dream never faded. My husband and I were taking a walk one day when he encouraged me to go for the dream I’d long pondered. Two years and one baby bird later, Birdie’s Brew is becoming a reality. A mobile coffee trailer, named for our daughter, Sophie Wren, will serve Wewahitchka, Florida, and surrounding areas. We cannot wait to see your face at the window!
